The Residency
The residency programme
Our programme runs three residency periods of two to three months each year.
How to applyHow a residency runs
Artists apply mainly through open calls, or by invitation through our existing network, and are selected by a committee. During their stay, Artists-in-Residence talk about their creative process and take part in critique and discussion. Each period also includes side events, announced on this site, where you can meet the artists.
Orientation meeting
A couple of days after all Artists-in-Residence arrive, the MeMeraki team welcomes them for an orientation meeting to get acquainted and go through the details of their stay and the programme.

Welcoming social event
For each residency we host at least one relaxed social event, a dinner or a small gathering, usually in our space, where the artists meet local artists and supporters of the artistic community.

Artist talks at the Cyprus University of Technology
Each Artist-in-Residence gives a 15–20 minute talk about their artistic process at the Fine Arts Department of the Cyprus University of Technology, open to students and the public. We believe artists should get into the habit of talking about their work.

Crit sessions with mentors and visiting artists
Four one-on-one crit sessions with the allocated mentor or Visiting Artist, and at least two group crits where all Artists-in-Residence visit each other's studios to give and receive critique.

Open studios
Towards the end of the residency, the public is invited to see the work in progress up close and meet the artists in their own studios.

Studio visits
Visits to local artists' studios, where they explain their process and the international artists get a taste of the local artistic community.

Annual group show
Once a year we curate a group show from past residencies, by medium, theme or residency, with a preview for selected industry people and organisations. The works become part of the MeMeraki Collection of Works and are not for sale.

Mentors
Each residency period we invite Mentors and Visiting Artists to take part as observers. They bring long professional experience and stand outside the artist's process, which makes them well placed to give feedback. We call this the fresh-eye approach. Visiting Artists also contribute to our Lecture Series, in person, online or both.
